Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 October 2026

This policy explains what Wording does with your information. It covers the Wording Mac app and this website. It’s written to be read, not skimmed past.

The short version

  • You need an email address to use Wording. We store it, plus your usage and billing records.
  • The text you ask Wording to rewrite is sent through our service to third-party AI providers to produce the result. It is not stored on our servers.
  • Voice is transcribed on your Mac. Your audio is not uploaded.
  • The history of your rewrites lives only on your Mac, and you can pause or clear it.
  • The app sends anonymous usage statistics — counts and bucket names only, never your text. You can turn this off in Settings.

Who we are

Wording is operated by Onkon Group Ltd, Level 7, World Trust Tower, 50 Stanley Street, Central, Hong Kong. For anything in this policy, contact us at hello@wording.me.

Information we collect

  • Account. Your email address, and the sign-in codes we send you. We store only a hash of each code, not the code itself.
  • Usage. How many rewrites you use, the amount of text processed (token counts), which writing mode you used, and the cost — so we can meter your allowance and bill correctly. This does not include the text you rewrite.
  • Billing. If you subscribe or buy a top-up, our payment processor Stripe handles your card details. We receive a customer identifier and your subscription and payment status, never your full card number.
  • Service data. Basic technical records needed to run the service, such as session tokens and timestamps.
  • App usage statistics. If you leave this on in Settings, the Mac app sends anonymous usage statistics (described in full under “App usage statistics” below). These never include the text you write or rewrite.

App usage statistics

With your permission, the Wording Mac app sends anonymous usage statistics so we can see how the app is actually used — where people get stuck, which features help, and whether a new version works. You can turn this off at any time in Settings → General → “Share anonymous usage stats”. Turning it off stops all future sending and deletes anything still waiting to be sent.

What we collect is limited to counts, categories, and yes/no values:

  • Which steps of setup you reach, and when you finish or leave.
  • That a rewrite happened — how it was started (a tap, the prompt box, or voice), which action it used (rewrite, reply, translate, assistant, dictate, or grammar), which writing mode, roughly how long the text was (a size band, not a count), how long it took, and whether it succeeded.
  • Which permission was granted (Accessibility, microphone).
  • Which app the rewrite went into, as one of a short list of well-known names (Mail, Slack, Notes, Safari, and similar), or “other”.
  • Which settings you change, and to which of their fixed options.
  • Whether you tapped a subscribe or top-up button, and which plan or amount — a purchase itself is recorded on our server from Stripe, keyed to your account.
  • An error category, when the app shows you an error message.

What we never collect: the text you write or rewrite, your instructions, the language you type into the translate field, a dictation transcript, the full text of an error, or any free-form field. Before you sign in, the statistics are tied to a random identifier created on your Mac, not to your name. Once you sign in, they are also tied to your Wording account, so we can understand, for example, how many people who install go on to subscribe. That account identifier is not your email address and not your sign-in token, and we do not use these statistics for advertising or sell them.

Amplitude processes these statistics for us. See “Who we share it with” and “Cookies and analytics” for more.

The text you rewrite

When you ask Wording to rewrite, reply, translate, or draft something, the relevant text is sent over an encrypted connection to our servers and forwarded to third-party AI providers that generate the result. Those providers may process and retain it under their own terms, and some of them process data outside Hong Kong, the EU, and the UK. We do not keep a copy of your rewritten text on our servers. Please avoid submitting information you’re not comfortable sending to a third-party AI service.

Voice

Dictation is transcribed on your Mac by a speech model that runs locally. Your audio is not uploaded for transcription.

History

The app can keep a local history of completed rewrites, stored on your Mac only. The retention period is your choice — one week, one month, one year, or forever (one month by default). You can pause it at any time and clear it completely. This history never leaves your Mac.

Emails

We send emails about your account and billing — a welcome when you sign up, receipts, a note if a payment doesn’t go through, and a heads-up when your allowance is running low. During the free trial we also send a few tips and reminders about getting the most out of Wording. Each of those includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing doesn’t affect the account and billing emails. Our emails are sent through an email delivery provider.

Why we use your information

  • To provide the service and produce your rewrites.
  • To manage your account, allowance, subscription, and top-ups.
  • To send you sign-in codes and essential service messages.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
  • To meet our legal and accounting obligations.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Wording, and only as needed:

  • Hosting and database providers, to run our servers and store account data.
  • Stripe, to process payments and manage subscriptions and top-ups.
  • An email provider, to send your sign-in codes.
  • AI providers, to generate the result when you ask Wording to process text.
  • An analytics provider (Amplitude), to understand how the website and the app are used. See “Cookies and analytics” and “App usage statistics”.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside Hong Kong, the EU, and the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.

Keeping your information

We keep account and usage data while your account is active, and billing records for as long as accounting law requires. Sign-in codes expire shortly after they’re issued. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under the EU and UK GDPR — you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your information, or object to how we use it. Email hello@wording.me and we’ll respond within the time the law allows. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Wording is not intended for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses analytics (Amplitude) to understand how it’s used — which pages people visit and how they interact with them, recorded through cookies or similar identifiers and, on some pages, a record of the session itself so we can see what works and what doesn’t. We use it only to improve the site, never for advertising, and we don’t sell this data. When you check out, Stripe’s own page may set cookies needed to process your payment. If you arrive through a partner link, the partner’s code is kept in your browser’s storage for 30 days so the recommendation can be credited.

Changes

We may update this policy. We’ll change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email.
